THE RINGS OF POWER Announces Two New Cast Members for Season 3

Amazon Prime’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER announced two new cast members are joining the show as the world expands in Season 3.

The first actor added to the cast is Jamie Campbell Bower. Bower is no stranger to epic fantasy stories; he has previously played the role of Gellert Grindelwald in the HARRY POTTER world, and he starred in four of the five TWILIGHT movies. Younger audiences, however, will likely recognize him most from his role as Vecna in STRANGER THINGS Season 4.

The other actor joining THE RINGS OF POWER is Eddie Marsan. Marsan is a 20-year veteran of the entertainment industry who has appeared in many blockbuster franchises. His previous roles include starring in titles such as WAR HORSE, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, V FOR VENDETTA and Guy Ritchie’s SHERLOCK HOLMES.

These actors join a show that has hit its stride after a shaky debut. Many fans found the first season of RINGS OF POWER to be quite slow and clunky, but by Season 2, most of those complaints had been smoothed out. Season 3 promises to be even more entertaining as Sauron’s rise continues to grow.

With The Lord of the Rings books having millions of fans across the world, some might think THE RINGS OF POWER was guaranteed to succeed. However, this was not the case. Though the mass fandom of Middle Earth showed up for the beginning of the first season, making it the biggest TV premiere in Prime Video history, many were surprised to find a Middle Earth they did not recognize. This is because the show takes place way before the time period portrayed in the book trilogy.

The show, however, has won over a sizable audience, largely through Christian themes and a family-friendly story. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of an episode from Season 2 reads:

The dialogue and character development for Episode Five of RINGS OF POWER: Season Two are superbly written and portrayed. Episode Five neatly brings out the Christian, biblical, moral themes in LORD OF THE RINGS. For example, it warns viewers that power tends to corrupt but urges them to courageously oppose evil with faith and values. There’s even a scene in Episode Five that warns against power-hungry rulers and higher taxes.

Production on season three of the show began in February after another season was secured last spring.
