When You Can See THE CHOSEN: LAST SUPPER on the Big Screen
By Movieguide® Contributor
THE CHOSEN has been wildly successful since its release, and the upcoming season might be the biggest yet. Season 5 is set to share some very pivotal moments in the life of Jesus, including The Last Super as Jesus is about to face the crucifixion.
The series joined Fathom entertainment for seasons 3 and 4, which caused it to gross $72 million to date.
The 5th season however will be the final for Fathom. Variety reported, “The fifth season will be the final one distributed by the company, as producers 5&2 Studios and global distributor Lionsgate recently made a deal for U.S. rights with Amazon to stream the final two installments as feature-length films. Any potential theatrical run will be handled by Amazon MGM.”
Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Entertainment, said people were skeptical of bringing The Chosen to theaters, but he knew it would work. “People looked at me like I was crazy,” he said. “But we had done our research, and we knew the potential.”
Fathom organized a way to release the series in a style that allowed viewers to see all of the episodes. Fathom releases the first two episodes the first week, followed by the following three the next week, and then the final three episodes.
Nutt said, “We came to the conclusion that doing something on a festival style was the way to go… It’s just amazing to me that people will pay for a movie ticket to go see it. It’s a tribute to the quality of the content. The production value is huge. The storytelling is beyond belief. And there’s people from all religions and sectors that come to see this — it’s not just Christians.”

previously reported on Jenkin’s description of some events in season 5:
Dallas Jenkins, the show’s creator, said that the Judas storyline in Season 5 was ‘heartbreaking and tough to film.’ ‘The portrayal of that in Season 5 is exciting and heartbreaking,’ he said. ‘We’ve already filmed a couple of scenes. Really heartbreaking and tough to film and are going to be tough to watch. They impacted Luke Dimyan who’s playing Judas significantly. How we portray scenes between Jesus and Judas when Jesus knows what’s coming. It’s been really fascinating to portray.’”
Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus in the series, shared a trailer for season 5 on his Instagram along with his thoughts on it.
