Is Daniel Craig Joining Netflix’s NARNIA Adaptation? Sources Say…

By Movieguide® Contributor

JAMES BOND star Daniel Craig has reportedly received an offer to appear in Netflix’s CHRONICLES OF NARNIA project — but will he accept it?

Sources told Deadline that Craig has “an offer to join the cast” but emphasized that the actor has not accepted anything just yet. It’s also unknown what role Netflix and director Greta Gerwig have in mind for Craig.

Craig isn’t the only big name reportedly in talks to join the new NARNIA movie. Earlier this month, Deadline reported that Grammy-winning pop star Charli XCX is also being eyed for “a key role.”

No word yet on what role Charli might be playing, but Deadline hypothesized that it could be Jadis, the White Witch.

Netflix and Gerwig have been keeping quiet about all things NARNIA, but producer and head of Pascal Pictures Amy Pascal told Deadline’s BEHIND THE LENS podcast that the BARBIE director has a “very new take” on C.S. Lewis’ beloved books.

Pascal added that the movie will be “all about rock ‘n roll,” which might explain Charli XCX’s possible addition to the cast.

Gerwig has been working on her version of the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA for years, telling Time that she had completed a draft of the script before starting production on 2023’s BARBIE.

“Knowing that I’d laid the groundwork for NARNIA and wanted to return to it — that’s probably something I set up for myself psychologically,” she explained

Gerwig also touched on what she loves about Lewis’ book, saying, “It’s connected to the folklore and fairy stories of England, but it’s a combination of different traditions…I’m interested in embracing the paradox of the worlds that Lewis created, because that’s what’s so compelling about them.”

Ted Sarandos, the CEO of Netflix, shared that Gerwig’s vision for CHRONICLES OF NARNIA is “rooted in faith.”

“It won’t be counter to how the audience may have imagined those worlds, but it will be bigger and bolder than they thought,” he continued.

While many of hypothesized that Gerwig’s movie will be a remake of THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE, Scott Stuber, former film chief of Netflix, told Variety that Gerwig and producers Pascal and Mark Gordon are working together “to figure out how they can break the whole arc of all of it.”

“There’s such an interesting narrative form [to the Narnia series] if you read all of them,” he added.
