Have You Seen These Signs From God?

Have you ever ignored a feeling from God? CeCe Winans is sharing an experience where she didn’t pay attention to a sign from Him and regretted it.

“The more you know the word, the more you know His character,” she said during an episode of BETTER TOGETHER TV. “We’re living in a time where people just want to feel goosebumps, and they think that’s the word of God, and it’s like, ‘No.’ You get messed up just going on goosebumps.”

Winans then shared a story when she ignored a feeling from God, which led to heartache down the road.

“I was probably about — I don’t know if I was 17 — I don’t know how old I was. Young,” she recalled. “And me and my brother BeBe, we were about to sign a contract, and we’re sitting in the office, and BeBe’s like, ‘CeCe, come on, let’s sign the contract.’ And I was just — ‘I don’t know, I don’t feel like I’m supposed to.’ I started crying and I was like, ‘I don’t know, I just don’t feel like I should.’ And he was like, ‘Well, come on, what’s the big deal?’”

She continued, “So, I said, ‘Okay, all right,’ and I’m signing it in tears, and that was the worst five years that I had to walk through.”

“I learned in that moment, it was just like, that was the spirit of God, telling me, warning me: ‘don’t ever be pressured to do something when you already know.’ And so I really learned from that,” Winans said. “I mean, it was a hard lesson, but I realized that that’s the way God was talking to me.”

She added, “And because I didn’t listen, I listen now.”

“When I look back, all we had to do — when you’re not for sure, be still. No matter how long we walk with God, right? Sometimes we just don’t know,” Winans concluded. “Find out what He’s saying…a lot of times we’re pressured, and we go ahead and we do something [and] God didn’t tell us to do it.”

Winans recently hit a major milestone at this year’s Grammy Awards, winning two trophies — Best Gospel Album (More Than This) and Best Performance/Song in Contemporary Christian Music (“That’s My King”).

She now has 15 Grammys, which is more than Madonna, Whitney Houston, and Britney Spears combined — and one more than pop star Taylor Swift.

“I love you and I count it an honor and a privilege to be a part of God’s family, advancing the kingdom of God,” Winans said of her wins. “And I am so blessed by what God has already done, but I’m more excited about what he’s going to continue to do for His glory.”

Winans isn’t resting on her laurels, though. The gospel star recently released a new single, “Come Jesus Come,” which sees her duetting with Pastor Shirley Caesar.

“It is an absolute honor to sing alongside the incomparable Shirley Caesar. Her voice, her spirit, and her unwavering faith have impacted gospel music and the world for generations,” Winans said in a statement about the collaboration. “‘Come Jesus Come’ is a song that speaks to the times we’re living in and having Pastor Caesar join me on this track makes it even more powerful. I pray it blesses everyone who hears it.”
