Tom Hanks and Tim Allen had some fun with their TOY STORY characters, playing off of Volkswagen’s new electric bus, I.D. Buzz.
“Woody sends this to me as if he is really worried so I send him the real buzz with buzz,” Allen posted on X along with two pictures of the actors posing in front of Volkswagen I.D. Buzzes.
The actors fun comes as they work together on a fifth installment in the TOY STORY series. Though many fans were worried Allen would not return to the franchise after he was replaced in LIGHTYEAR, he thrilled everyone when he announced he would be returning. He also lauded the movie, sharing that he is excited for the story.
“It’s a very, very clever story. Do you wanna do five of these? I don’t really believe it’s about the money,” Allen told Collider. “I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it. Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks].”
“It’s really clever. I was really struggling to get [into character], and then maybe two hours in, I was doing Buzz. I’m so blessed to be Buzz Lightyear, to be honest. It’s gonna be fun. I think we’re a year out. I’ve gotten up to the third act. We’ll do the third act. And then we’ll go back and clean it. And then, I’ll do it about five more times. It’s a really good story, buys. It’s really good.”

Looking to tackle the way that many kids spend their time these days, TOY STORY 5 will pit the toys against technology.
“The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s TOY STORY %, and this time around, it’s Toy meets Tech,” Disney’s synopsis for the movie reads. “Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with this all-new threat to playtime.”
Pixar co-chief creative officer Pete Docter recently spilled a little more about the movie.
“So I will say TOY STORY 5, I think [writer and director] Andrew’s done a really great job of letting moments breathe in unexpected ways,” he revealed. “Things that [make you think], Wait, is this a TOY STORY movie?, with some of his choices, which I think we need at this point. We’ve had four of ’em already. We got to keep people surprised, so it’s going to be fun.”
The movie is slated to hit theaters on July 19, 2026.
