Actor Jim Caviezel, who plays Jesus in THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, believes it is important for us to tell God that we love Him.
“I want you to know I love you, and I’ll tell you every day from this point on. And if I could tell you one thing, our Lord loves you,” he said of what we should tell God in a video for TBN. “But if you ever have it within you just to tell Him you love Him. You want to talk about a personal relationship with Jesus? Tell Him you love Him.”
Caviezel explained how, just like in human relationships, it is important and meaningful to verbally express our affection.
“If you speak from your head and you tell your husband or your wife ‘You know, I love you,’ only from my head, but what does it mean when you speak from your heart, and you say ‘I love you’ to my husband or to my wife or to my child? It means so much more.”
He added, “Do the same with our Lord. Our heavenly Father deserves it.”
Caviezel referenced the passage in John 21:15-17 where Jesus asks Peter three times if he loves Him. Eventually, as we know, Peter goes on to deny Jesus.
“How it broke His heart,” Caviezel continued. “I’ve been a coward in my life, but I don’t want to be one when it really counts. This is when it counts.”

Caviezel has never shied away from sharing his faith publicly, both in discussions and in his movie choices. THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST directed by Mel Gibson came out in 2004, and now 21 years later, Caviezel will again star in a sequel to the film titled THE RESURRECTION OF THE CHRIST. It is set to begin filming this August in Rome’s Cinecittà Studios.
His acting career is a heavenly calling.
“[God] came to me in a movie theater and made me feel like I was the only child that He had, that He loved me that much,” the actor said in a previous interview with TBN. “There was this peace I never felt, and then He said, ‘I’d like you to become an actor.’”
Caviezel continued, I didn’t know anything about the stuff back then, but if he says so, give it a shot…I was surrounded by this love from heaven, and I could feel how much He loved me. If you can love me like that, I’m in.”
