Erin Cahill says faith is at the heart of both her latest movie, JOURNEY TO YOU, and her own life.
“I’ve been through similar struggles [as my character],” Cahill told Movieguide®. “I think that’s what’s so beautifully relatable about this movie. I think all of us can relate to that. I think we’ve all gone through times when we’ve struggled or we’ve searched for things that are outside of ourselves, that are exterior, and we thought that was going to solve something…and that’s never the case.”
JOURNEY TO YOU tells the story of Monica who, after losing out on a promotion at work, “reluctantly walks the Camino de Santiago. She’s surprised when along the way she finds inner peace and a potential romance,” per IMDb.
The movie’s production took Cahill to “magical” Spain, where she “cried almost every day out of gratitude. I was like, ‘Thank you, angels.’”
“My dad always says, ‘If “thank you” is the only prayer you say, that’s enough.’ And sometimes just being in gratitude will naturally help me slow down,” she explained.
Cahill also spoke about the power faith has had in her own life. She even has a tattoo of the word on her foot.
“It reminds me it’s so easy to have faith when things are going well,” she said “But it’s a challenge, and that’s when it’s most imperative to have faith.”
In addition to her faith, Cahill also takes part in charity work to help her feel balanced in her personal and professional lives.
“This is a shameless plug for charity, but being of service is something that’s saved me constantly,” she told Woman’s World. “In this industry, you can get myopically focused on yourself. It’s very easy to drown in that. For me, getting out and doing something for someone else — whether it be for a neighbor, friend or a great charity — it saves me.”
Cahill works with BuildOn, an organization devoted to building schools around the world.

“My husband and I have built some schools with them abroad and they do work here with kids in community service programs in America,” she wrote in an essay for BuildOn’s website. “I could talk about them forever. They are a piece of my heart!”
In a January Instagram post, Cahill wrote, “Heading out to break ground on our next school with @buildon and I’m BEYOND excited to share about it when we are back with cell service!! This incredible organization is affecting real and generational change through education, both in America and communities all over the world. It is one of the GREATEST gifts of my life to be able to partner with them for the last eight years.”
Through her work on screen and off, Cahill is devoted to spreading a message of hope and faith. JOURNEY TO YOU premieres April 19 at 8pm ET/PT on the Hallmark Channel.
