Actress Alexa PenaVega recalled how the Lord transformed her heart and allowed her to conquer an eating disorder that she had struggled with for years.
“Truly, for the longest time going through an eating disorder, I was convinced there’s no way there are just normal people. I feel like everyone has an eating disorder…And it is sad because when you look at the statistics, it’s a very real thing that takes over like an addiction,” PenaVega said. “You basically become an addict in this cycle.”
“I was reading the Bible while I [was] binging and purging, and none of it made sense. I was like, ‘How do I get out of this?’ And I remember praying to God and telling Him, ‘I would like you to take this away,'” she continued. “And I had good moments, [I stopped] for a whole year, and it was amazing, but then I went right back into it, and I’m like, ‘I don’t want this anymore. I need You to take it from me because I am not strong enough.'”
“It wasn’t until I actually started going to a Bible study that God really started working in my heart. It was weird because it didn’t happen right away,” PenaVega added. “It wasn’t like this easy, overnight thing. But one day, after lots of prayers and years of battling, this one day, I woke up, and it was gone. It was gone.”
While discussing the eating disorder in the past, PenaVega has shared how confident she feels knowing that the Lord is on her side. Having overcome one of the largest obstacles she had ever faced through His power, she now feels unstoppable, which is part of the reason why she is so bold about her faith.

“The Word of God is power…it is so powerful. I mean, it’s so powerful in the way that people look at superheroes or magic or whatever they want to look at. It is literally that,” PenaVega told Sadie Robertson Huff in June of 2022. “I feel like a superhero because I know I have God behind me in everything that I do.”
The Bible also speaks to the Lord’s incredible power and reveals it again and again through the miracles He performs. As modern day believers, we have access to the Lord through the Holy Spirit, through which He emboldens us and purifies us to make us more like Him.
“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from them,” Jesus said in John 7:37-38.
Alexa PenaVega is a testament to what it means to have the living water flow from you. After letting the Lord transform her life, she cannot stop sharing the good news with others.
