Alexa PenaVega is celebrating the birthday of the child she and her husband, Carlos, lost on April 13, 2024.
“Happy heavenly birthday Indy girl. 🤍Our little world changer. Psalm 34:18,” Alexa captioned in her post on Sunday.
The post showed her three eldest children holding and looking at a photo of Indy, who was born stillborn last year.
Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
This is the first time that the PenaVegas have shared a photo of sweet Indy, who Alexa previously described in a social media post as “absolutely beautiful” and looking “just like daddy. Dark hair and all.”
In the same post last April, Alexa said, “There are never the right words to say when it comes to loss. After a beautiful and peaceful delivery our daughter ‘Indy’ was born at rest. It has been a painful journey. But in the pain we have found peace. God continues to comfort and hold us in his arms.”
“The prayers from the community around us have been so sustaining in this difficult season,” she continued. “This little girl has already changed our lives in so many ways.”
They added that they feel grateful for her life but “absolutely gutted” that she’s gone. Grief has come to us in waves.”
“We can’t understand why things like this happen and we may never get those answers. Indy Rex PenaVega, you completely changed our world. You moved us to a new place,” Alexa said. “You gave us the community we have been longing for. We love you can’t wait to see how many other lives you change.”
On Sunday, Carlos reshared the post in his story, saying, “Happy Birthday, Indy!” He also commented on the post, “Love my little Indy girl 🙂 ❤️❤️❤️”
Alexa also posted a photo of herself holding Indy after her birth. In it, she sits in a hospital chair, red-faced, crying with a box of tissues beside her.

“This was the most painful moment I have ever experienced. I remember it feeling so hard to breathe,” she began the post. “Such a deep aching pain…How was this real? It didn’t feel real. Every emotion flooded in at once.”
“And yet, despite devastating loss, we felt so held…so covered…a super natural peace. It was all out of our control. We had to give it all over to God,” she explained.
She says that because the burden was too difficult for them, God gave her family His supernatural peace.
“Over this last year we have watched LIFE come out of her life. We watched people heal because of Indy. We watched grief lifted because of Indy,” she shared.
“We watched relationships be restored…God gave her life SO MUCH FRUIT…so much meaning and purpose,” she continued.
“Our sweet girl is celebrating with Jesus today. And While we still mourn and wish we had her in our arms…we know she is waiting for us in a place that is beyond anything we can imagine. Jeremiah 29:11,” she finished.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
Even though Indy didn’t survive outside the womb, good things came out of her short life, and her impact will always continue to amaze her parents.
