Danica McKellar just celebrated three years of her walk with the Lord, explaining how she came to know Christ and how He has impacted her life.
“So, long story short, three years ago I began my faith journey,” the Great American Family star said. “I didn’t even know it was going to be happening. My friend Candace [Cameron Bure] brought me to church. And, I always, like, believed in some sort of higher power God thing. Somehow, I knew there was more to it than how we see it, I knew there was more to it than what science can explain. But it hadn’t crystallized for me. And I had a bias against Christianity and the whole Jesus thing…I just didn’t have a good feeling about it and…[When I went to church] it was a revelation, it was an intellectual one and an emotional one.”
“And I don’t know how to describe [my walk with the Lord]. It’s joy, it’s freedom, it’s a feeling of joy and freedom and calm. There’s that peace that surpasses understanding. It’s so good,” she added.
Since becoming a Christian, McKellar has been on fire for the Lord. In 2022, she began to share “Bible Bits” with her fans, explaining all the new things she was learning as she began he walk with the Lord. And in 2023, she made it her goal to read the Bible in a year. She continues to be open about her faith and encourages others to give God a chance if they have already written Him off.

“New week! And a chance to start anew. 🌻 Whatever your June has looked like so far, this is your reminder that patterns of our lives and thoughts are not permanent,” she wrote in June of 2022. “Feel that optimism, that buoyancy that is available to us anytime we seek it. How? Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and as you breathe in, feel God’s love and energy.”
McKellar has also focused on showing how the lessons and stories in the Bible are just as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. For example, in 2023, she reflected on the story of David and the way that King Saul’s actions are very human, serving as a warning for all who have come after him.
“What I see in this, the very human trait of justifying and rationalizing behavior, that we know is wrong, but we want it to be right. I know I’ve done that before and then I look back and I’m like, ‘Hmm, I was rationalizing that. I wanted it to be true because it was convenient or safe or attractive or whatever it was, but it wasn’t right,” she said.
Even as a younger Christian, McKellar has made an outsized impact with her faith. It is amazing how much she has grown in her walk with the Lord in only three years, and hopefully she will continue to grow as Christ becomes even more real for her.
