Australian actress and film producer Cate Blanchett has announced that she has “given up” acting because there are other things in her life she wishes to pursue.

The LORD OF THE RINGS star refuses to classify herself as an “actress” because “I’m giving up,” as she told the Radio Times.

“My family rolls their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting…[There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life,” Blanchett said, per an Instagram post from E! News.

Blanchett’s most recent role is in the new film BLACK BAG, a “gripping spy drama about legendary intelligence agents George Woodhouse and his beloved wife Kathryn. When she is suspected of betraying the nation, George faces the ultimate test — loyalty to his marriage or his country,” an official logline of the film reads, per Rotten Tomatoes.

Blanchett has also won two Oscars for best supporting actress in THE AVIATOR and BLUE JASMINE.

But she doesn’t like the fame.

“When you go on a talk show, or even here now, and then you see soundbites of things you’ve said, pulled out and italicized, they sound really loud. I’m not that person,” she told Radio Times of being a celebrity. “I make more sense in motion — it’s been a long time to remotely get comfortable with the idea of being photographed.”

“I’ve always felt like I’m on the periphery of things, so I’m always surprised when I belong anywhere. I go with curiosity into whatever environment that I’m in, not expecting to be accepted or welcomed,” she added. “I’ve spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable. No one is more boring to me than myself and I find other people much more interesting. I find myself profoundly dull.”

This isn’t the first time Blanchett has made remarks about leaving the entertainment industry.

In March, she told The Guardian, “I always thought, if the acting thing didn’t work out, which it still might not, I would love to be a Foley artist. One day, I’m going to grow up and get a proper job.”

Blanchett has also addressed how the industry has pulled away from ageism and sexism. The “shelf life of actresses when I first came on the scene was about five years,” the actress said.

She told Business Insider, “I think that female producers have more agency. There’s more females in the writing room, and the more diverse the industry is at base level, when things are developed, the more exciting it is for audiences.”

Blanchett has not revealed what she plans to leave Hollywood for, however, she does seem to have other things in her life she wishes to pursue.
