Jack Black just surprised a theater full of lucky MINECRAFT MOVIE fans!
“For today’s presentation of A MINECRAFT MOVIE, please no throwing popcorn,” Black said in a video posted to X. “And absolutely no chicken jockeys!”
MINECRAFT MOVIE fans have come under fire recently for their behavior during the movie, including throwing popcorn and drinks, as well as yelling and jumping up during the now-infamous “chicken jockey” scene.
“The theaters are being ABSOLUTELY TRASHED,” one Apple Cinemas employee shared, via The Hollywood Reporter. “I see everyone saying to ‘just kick them out,’ which is what we usually do, but the issue is I can never pin point a single person doing it rather the whole theater is collectively talking and being loud (with a few that are almost screaming).”
Black finished his movie intro with, “Oh yeah! I am Steve [his character in the movie]. Are you ready to rock? Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy A MINECRAFT MOVIE.”

While Black is trying to calm moviegoers down, the movie’s director, Jared Hess, is enjoying their antics — and wants people to keep it up.

“It’s weird when you’re having too much fun and the cops get called,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s funny because I think it’s just literally cheering and throwing popcorn, which is so funny to me that cops are getting called for popcorn.”
Hess continued, “I’m just so happy that people are finding joy in going back to cinemas and seeing things as a community, as a group of people. It’s like we’ve become so isolated on our devices, and it’s just fun to experience things as a group of human beings. I think people are starved for that experience. So it’s fun that they’ve found it in this goofy movie that we’ve made.”
Some theaters are even putting on special “chicken jockey” screenings, where fans are encouraged to “dress up as your favorite MINECRAFT characters, whoop, yelp, clap and shout,” an announcement from Regal reads.
Love it or hate it, the antics surrounding A MINECRAFT MOVIE have pushed it to the top of the box office ranks. Currently, the movie has made over $550 million at the global box office, per BoxOfficeMojo, making it the most successful video-game-to-movie adaptation of all time.
Black’s special appearance might have kept that audience from getting too rowdy, but it seems like, for MINECRAFT MOVIE fans, that’s the best part.
