Singer Luke Combs wants his children to have a “normal” childhood and wants to be present in their lives, despite his fame.
“We live in a 2,000-foot house,” Combs said of how he keeps life normal for his kids while on the “MeatEater” podcast. “It’s two bedrooms. Me and my wife have a room and then the kids, the boys, share a room.”
Combs explained that his family’s living situation causes them to be “always close together” and “always tied in there.”
Overall, his life is pretty normal.
“Life is so normal outside of, like, when I’m playing shows,” the country singer revealed. “Like I really don’t do a whole lot of anything other than I go play my shows and I come home, and I spend time with my wife and my kids.”
When he’s not playing shows, Combs loves getting quality time with his boys, Tex, 2, and Beau, 1.
“I’m basically like in some ways like another form of a stay-at-home parent,” he explained. “When I’m not on the road…I’m home four days a week every week like full-time.”
“Sun-up, sundown most days. Getting the kids up, changing diapers, doing baths, cooking dinners, cooking lunches, cooking breakfasts. That occupies a lot of my time, but that’s what I want.” He added, “I want I want my kid’s childhood to feel as normal as it can given the very strange circumstance that it will ultimately become.”
Combs also shared that he has turned down many career opportunities for the sake of his family.
“That’s a choice you have to make, and you lose a lot of things with that in the sense of like there’s so many cool opportunities that I have that maybe you know would be…really beneficial, but cool experiences or beneficial to my career that I pass on to do that for my kids.”
Later in the conversation, Combs and the podcast hosts mentioned how good dads are often praised for being good dads because they are becoming rare.
“We’re having a dad crisis right now, We’re in the midst of a dad crisis,” he said.

Last year Combs released an album called Father and Sons, which he spoke about with PEOPLE.
“I wanted them [his kids] to be able to reference later on in their life that even at the height of my success they were still my number one priority,” said Combs. “If anyone’s dad had the opportunity to do something like that, I think that they would take it. At least I would hope so. I did it for them.”
The singer has made an impact in country music so much so that he earned a star on the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville. He posted a photo to Instagram of his wife and himself during the special moment.
In the caption, he wrote, “It was never about any kind of recognition, just the love of music. And I didn’t really know anyone here at the time, but I eventually met my wife and some of my best friends. I’ll be forever grateful for this and Music City taking me in as one of their own. I get to do what I love, which is singing country music, because of it.”
Regardless of any fame or accolades he receives, Combs is a great example of putting your family first no matter what.
