THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie experienced the Holy Land during this Holy Week as part of prayer app Hallow’s video series “Holy Week in the Holy Land.”

“After the Last Supper, Jesus and the disciples come walking all the way down into this valley below us — the Kidron Valley — and they will head to the right here, which is north, and they’re going to stop at the Garden of Gethsemane,” Bible scholar Jeff Cavens began to explain.

“That’s where we typically see the Passion really picking up steam. It really starts to begin there. Gets real,” he continued. “Once Jesus is sought out by the authorities with the help of Judas, He is taken, and He’s brought to Caiaphas’ house. And if you look off into the distance, you’ll see a church with a gray top — that is Caiaphas’ house.”

Roumie and Cavens traveled to that same house to see it in person.

“So they go up there, and Jesus is put into the prison — a holding area,” Cavens explained. “So when they were there, Caiaphas says, ‘Well, I need to turn him over to Pilate.’ So he does. And then we have that scene — Jesus is taken, and He is going to be crucified.”

While in the Holy Land, Roumie, who plays Jesus on THE CHOSEN, realized how much closer everything is than he originally thought.

“Everything’s closer to each other. And for me, it kind of brings everything home in a really impactful way,” he reflected.

Roumie took to Instagram to describe to his followers what it has been like to be in the Holy Land during Holy Week.

“My friends, words cannot convey just how much being in the Holy Land filming this project on @hallowapp for you meant to me. LIFE-CHANGING! 😭” the actor wrote.

“To walk where Jesus walked and pray where He prayed is something that in my life I will never forget,” he continued. “I am excited and proud to bring you this series alongside my friend, @jeffcavins. Each day this week, journey with us through the sites significant to Christ’s passion. ✝️ Even watching them, I feel like I’m brought back to these Holy places.”

Apart from his time in the Holy Land, Roumie just finished collaborating with Christian artist Michael W. Smith on the singer’s new song, “Arms Around the Sun.”

Roumie, who played drums on the track, wrote in a post on his Instagram, “I couldn’t be more honored to get to play with the legend himself and my dear friend. Thank you, Michael, and @_teddt_ for letting me be part of such a fantastic track. This all happened kinda spontaneously (I maintain I was “tricked” into this recording by Tedd and Michael 😂). Can’t believe I got to do it. It’s a banger!! 🔥 SO fun.”
