Florence Pugh just revealed DUNE: PART THREE’s filming window — this summer.
This is the first time the news has been confirmed by an active member of production. Principal photography will finish before the end of the year.
Screen Rant’s Ryan Northrup notes that fans may get a sneak peek of the film in 2025, as actors may share set photos if allowed. In 2022, Zendaya, who plays Chani, shared photos while filming DUNE: PART TWO.
No one has confirmed the location of PART THREE’s sets, but previous shooting locations for the franchise have been in Hungary, Jordan and Abu Dhabi, according to Deadline.
Pugh expressed she hopes her character, Princess Irulan, has a more prominent role. “I hope we see more of her. I want more cool outfits!” she said. Pugh might get her wish. If the third movie is going by the Dune book series’ storyline, then Irulan likely will have a larger role.
Denis Villeneuve will return to direct the third installment, as he did the first two, but promised he won’t be back for a fourth movie. Timothée Chalamet will return as Paul Atreides, Zendaya will return as Chani, Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam, Javier Bardem as Stilgar and Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides.
The movie’s release date hasn’t been officially announced. Last year, Warner Bros and Legendary showed a December 2026 slot on their calendar for a “Denis Villeneuve Event Film.” There was some buzz about it being for DUNE: PART THREE. However, if it’s filming this summer, it’s unlikely that it’d be ready for release by December 2026.
In October, Villeneuve said, “I thought that after PART TWO that I will take a break, that I will go back in the woods and stay in the woods for a while to recover. But the woods weren’t really suiting me, and I would go back behind the camera faster than I think.”
He told The Wrap, “I think my biggest surprise about this is that I don’t want to run away from Arrakis. I’m still inspired to go back. That’s the thing that I was the most surprised by. I felt that after PART TWO, I would need a break.”

“I thought that I would want to go write a few films or do a couple of things before going back to Dune: Messiah. But the images that kept coming back to my mind, the appetite is absolutely intact,” he explained.
The DUNE prequel series, DUNE: PROPHECY, recently got the green light for a second season, per Digital Spy. The series’ story takes place about 10,000 years before the movies and explains the origins of the Bene Gesserit.
The series is available to stream on Hulu and Max.
