Gabriel Macht reprised the beloved Harvey Specter in a three-episode arc for the new SUITS spinoff, SUITS L.A. He called his first scene back a “full-circle moment” for more reasons than one.
“We ended up shooting the first couple scenes at Rancho Park, which is the park that I practiced high school baseball at,” Macht told PEOPLE. “So getting into a uniform and playing baseball for that scene, not only was it nostalgic just to be Harvey again, [but also to be] on a set with my showrunner from the original show, Aaron [Korsh] and the directors are the same directors and writers. So that was all very nostalgic.”
Another special moment for Macht was when his father, Stephen Macht, who also appeared in several episodes of SUITS, stopped by to watch his son back in action.
“I said, ‘If you want to see a scene, you should come to this scene.’ There he is sitting in the stands…where he used to watch me play [as a kid],” the actor remembered. “That was this full-circle moment.”
“To be in this space of recreating this character that has sort of made a dent in the business, in the public zeitgeist, and coming back, it was an interesting sort of dynamic,” he added. “It was not only nostalgic, but it was a sweet, sort of full-circle moment.”
Macht posted a video on his Instagram of him getting back into Harvey Specter’s suit.
“Follow up to getting back in the saddle. I guess I still have the fight in me…going by my cufflinks,” Macht wrote. “First time I’ve been #46 on the call sheet. #1, #46 what’s the difference?!?”
Since the end of SUITS in 2019, Macht elected to step away from acting to spend more time with his wife and children. However, when creator Aaron Korsh approached him to reprise the role in SUITS L.A., Macht didn’t hesitate.
“It was a little surprising that it was easy only in that Aaron didn’t write really impossibly difficult dialogue for me,” he explained. “For once.”
Macht has “very little interest” in making a full return to acting but did say he decided to reprise his role of Harvey as “a way that I could sort of pass the baton to Stephen [Amell] and the cast in L.A.,” he previously told PEOPLE.
“If I [could have] anything to do with helping support the show and getting it off [the ground], it’s almost like [giving] a blessing,” Macht added.
SUITS L.A. has new episodes premiering on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
