Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis wants to give those acting as caregivers hope through her upcoming book The Unexpected Journey, which details her husband’s journey with dementia.
“I’m honored to share the cover of my first book, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path,” she posted on Instagram accompanied by a photo of the book.
The book, which is set to release Sept. 9, is “born from grief, shaped by love,” Heming Willis said.
She added that this is the book she wishes she had when her family received the life-changing news of Bruce’s dementia diagnosis several years ago.
She concluded, “This is the book I trust will help the next caregiver. It is filled with support, insight, and the hope needed to navigate this journey…This book is for all of us finding our way through the unknown with love, grit, and courage. You are not alone. 💙”
People in the comment section expressed their gratitude for the upcoming release. “I can’t wait to read this! I am just starting my journey of caregiving for my husband with BvFTD. You’re an inspiration,” one user said. Another person added, “Thank you for your hard work in helping caregivers walking this journey now and in the future!💛”
Bruce Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, which progressed into a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis. The Mayo Clinic describes frontotemporal dementia as a condition where “parts of these lobes [in the brain] shrink, known as atrophy. Symptoms depend on which part of the brain is affected. Some people with frontotemporal dementia have changes in their personalities. They become socially inappropriate and may be impulsive or emotionally indifferent. Others lose the ability to properly use language.”
Heming Willis has made it her mission to raise awareness about the condition, abbreviated as “FTD.” In a separate post to Instagram, she encouraged people to raise awareness about the disease.
She stated, “Why does this matter? Because awareness = action. When elected officials understand FTD, they’re more likely to support funding, research, and policies that make a difference.”
Bruce Willis’ ex-wife Demi Moore, whom he shares three daughters with, has also been incredibly supportive amid his dementia battle. Last month, she took to Instagram to celebrate the 70-year-old’s birthday and shared some sweet family photos.
She wrote, “Happy birthday, BW! We love you ♥️”
While Bruce Willis faces a difficult health battle, his family and friends have rallied around him with continued support. It is a great reminder that no matter what is going on in life, we can set aside our differences to love and support one another.
