Nate Bargatze may be known as a “clean comedian,” but surprisingly, comedy is not his long-term plan.
“I don’t plan on touring and doing stand-up forever. I want to make movies,” he revealed in an interview with the New York Times. “People can think, if you get too big, are you going to change? The audience is very much in mind with everything that I will make. Again, I try not to do it for me. It’s for you. I want them to be able to trust that.”
As far as his future in comedy goes, Bargatze hopes to have one additional special on Netflix, and then be done.
“I could see maybe one more special after that,” he said, referring to his most recent Netflix special titled YOUR FRIEND, NATE BARGATZE. He continued, “I don’t want to overstay my welcome. I also want to get out of the way. I need to let the next wave of comedians come up. I got this tour and then maybe one more.”
TODAY reacted to Bargatze’s announcement in a clip. “He Just got here!” one host said. “He’s so funny, he’s so good,” another host added.
In Bargatze’s interview with The New York Times, he said the goal of his comedy is to serve other people — not himself.
“When I go onstage, I try to remind myself this night’s not about me,” the 46-year-old explained. “If it becomes about me, it’s too much. I can’t handle it. But if I can make it for other people, now I’m an employee and I’m working. It’s not about my self-importance.”
When asked to clarify want he meant, Bargatze explained, “Yes, I’m talking about myself, and I’m making fun of myself, but the material’s written for you. I’m not doing it to make myself look good. I’m doing it to make you laugh. You can laugh with me or at me.”

In addition to his upcoming Netflix specials, Bargatze is set to host the Emmys this September. In a post to the CBS Instagram, it says, “The #Emmys has a host! Don’t miss @natebargatze host the 77th Emmy® Awards LIVE coast to coast Sunday, September 14th at 8pm ET/5pm PT on CBS and @ParamountPlus!”
Fans shared their excitement in the comment section. “A funny and clean comedian?? The Emmys won’t know what hit them lol BUT viewership should skyrocket!!! He’s amazing!!” one user said. Another person added, “I haven’t watched the Emmy’s in decades but will to watch Nate!”
Bargatze has long been vocal about his efforts to keep his content clean, and whether it’s comedy or film, we can trust that his work will be something that families are safe to watch together.
