Dave Coulier got two amazing pieces of news on the same day — he became a grandfather and was declared cancer-free!
“I got the good news the day the baby was born,” the FULL HOUSE actor said during an episode of the “How Rude, Tanneritos!” podcast, referring to the news that he had beaten his cancer.
Coulier continued, “So I heard the news and I was so excited, and then Luc called us and he said, ‘Hey, the baby just was born.’ And so, I mean, it was an amazing day. It was really amazing, you know?” He added, “So we were like, ‘Oh, this is just too much!’”
Coulier’s son Luc and his wife Alex welcomed their first child, a boy, on March 27.
“We’re so excited,” he told Parade. “My son and his wife live in California, so we’ll be making multiple trips to see that little boy.”
The actor revealed he had been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma last year.

“I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming,” he told PEOPLE. “This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey.”
He continued, “When I first got the news, I was stunned, of course, because I didn’t expect it, and then reality settled in and I found myself remarkably calm with whatever the outcome was going to be.”
“I don’t know how to explain it, but there was an inner calm about all of it, and I think that that’s part of what I’ve seen with the women in my family go through [Coulier’s mother, sister and niece all died after battling breast cancer],” Coulier said. “They really instilled that in me and inspired me in a way because they were magnificent going through what they went through, and I just thought, ‘I’m okay with this too.’ I’ve had an incredible life on a journey with incredible people around me and I’m okay. It does change perspective for sure.”
Coulier encouraged others to take preventative action so that any health issues can be found early.
“Take great care of yourself, because there’s a lot to live for,” he said. “And if that means talking with your doctors or getting a mammogram or a breast exam or colonoscopy, it can really make a big change in your life.”
In his interview with Parade, Coulier said, “I don’t know how else to view this other than with a positive attitude, especially because I’m in a position where I can inspire others. A negative attitude doesn’t inspire anybody. Positivity, though, can take you a long way.”
Between becoming a grandfather and receiving the news that he is cancer-free, Coulier has a lot to celebrate these days!
