Atheists and government officials have launched new attacks on Christmas and God in recent days.
In the most recent attack, the Democratic governor of Washington allowed a radical atheist group to put up a placard Monday in the state capitol near her office, joining a Christian Nativity scene celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and a “holiday tree.”
The placard by the Freedom From Religion Foundation extols “reason” and “the Winter Solstice.” The sing also says that religion is “myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.”
Of course, neither the Nativity scene nor the tree display attacks nor mocks atheism or secular humanism.
Fox News Channel pundit Bill O’Reilly Tuesday night called on citizens to calmly and “respectively” complain to Gov. Christine Gregoire at (360) 902-411 about the offensive anti-Christmas, anti-religion sign.
O’Reilly also noted that Christmas is an official federal holiday, as is the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King.
In another incident, the American Humanist Association is running numerous ads in Washington, D.C. in November and December saying, “Why Believe in a god? Just be good for goodness’ sake.”
A third incident occurred overseas in Sneinton, England where a primary school announced it had planned to cancel a Christmas Nativity play because it conflicted with the three-day Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
When parents complained about this outrage, the school announced the Christmas performance would just be postponed until the New Year, after Christmas!
