What You Need To Know:

A PERFECT GETAWAY is the story of newlyweds who spend their honeymoon hiking on a Hawaiian island while a murderer runs loose. Cliff and Cydnie start their hike even after learning that newlyweds were brutally murdered on the nearby island. As they hike, they meet two other couples, a crazy hitchhiking couple and an ex-Army Ranger and his southern belle girlfriend. As these couples progress through the jungle, it becomes a game of sorts for the characters and viewers to pick out who the true killers are. Clues and “red herrings” abound as the characters alternately trust and distrust each other.

The performances in A PERFECT GETAWAY are terrific, especially since no character is exactly who you think they are. The script is amazing for the genre and has references and layers to the narrative that make the movie especially fun. This is a thriller, however, with some intense negative content. The violence is the worst offender with fights and graphic stabbing scenes. There is also partial nudity, plenty of foul language, smoking marijuana, and some mixed positive elements. Therefore, please exercise extreme caution when considering whether to see A PERFECT GETAWAY.

More Detail:

A PERFECT GETAWAY is the story of two newlyweds who spend their honeymoon hiking on a Hawaiian island while a murderer runs loose.

Cliff, a screenwriter, and his new bride, Cydnie, start their hike after learning that newlyweds were brutally murdered on the nearby island. As they hike, they meet two other couples, a crazy hitchhiking couple, Kale and Cleo, as well as another couple, ex-Army Ranger Nick and southern belle Gina, who knows how to field dress a goat.

As these couples progress through the gorgeous island jungle, it becomes a game of sorts for the characters and audience to pick who the true killers are. Clues and “red herrings” abound as the characters alternately trust and distrust each other.

Along the way, viewers learn about Gina and Nick and that Nick won’t propose, plus the history of Cliff and Cydnie’s relationship. Not wanting to give away the ending, suffice it to say that there are many fun twists and turns. Even after the movie is over, you “get” some of the twists that, at the time, weren’t immediately apparent.

The performances in A PERFECT GETAWAY are terrific, especially since no character is exactly who you think they are at the outset. Steve Zahn especially is terrific as Cliff.

The script is amazing for the genre and has references and layers to the narrative that make the movie especially fun.

There are positive and negative references to scripture. For example, a character says the “wages of sin is death,” but another character recounts how a preacher once said they would “rot in Hell” if they had sex before marriage.

This is a thriller movie with intense negative content. The violence is the worst offender with fights and knife impaling scenes that are very graphic. There is also brief partial nudity, plenty of foul language, smoking marijuana, and some mixed positive elements. Therefore, despite the high production values, good acting and excellent script, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for A PERFECT GETAWAY.
