The percent of American Christian adults who agree that the Bible is accurate in all it teaches has jumped 5% in two years, according to the Barna Research Group, from 68% in 2007 to 73% in 2009. That’s more than 130 million American adults!
Only 22% of Christian Americans, or 39 million adults, disagree that the Bible is accurate, while 5% aren’t sure what to believe.
However, when faced with the statement that “the Bible, the Koran and the Book of Mormon are all different expressions of the same spiritual truths,” 41% of Christian adults agreed while only 40% disagreed, leaving 20% undecided.
These percentages indicate that, while nearly three-quarters of America’s 179 million Christian adults might like to see more TV programs and movies with positive biblical content in them, a significant portion of Christians in America are confused about the exclusive nature of Christianity, which traditionally teaches that the Bible is the only and the most reliable written authority on God and religion.
