Iran’s Muslim government has arrested more than 30 Christians in the last two weeks as part of its recent violent crackdown on protestors and its purge of opponents.
Most of the Christian victims were released, but eight remain in jail. Also, two Christian women imprisoned since March 5, Maryam Rostampour and Marzieh Esmaeilabad, remain in jail because they have refused to recant their Christian faith.
Amnesty International reported on Aug. 7 an average of two executions a day since the controversial presidential elections held June 12.
U.S. President Obama has declined to speak out strongly against the crackdown on Christians and protesters in Iran in favor of “diplomacy.”
