Movie productions are fleeing Los Angeles, not only to Canada but also to states like Louisianna and Georgia, which can offer better value for one’s money.
FilmLA, an organization designed to streamline the city’s film permit process, estimates that there are about 50% fewer feature film productions being shot in LA than a decade ago. Also, the amount of filming taking place dropped 31% in the second quarter of this year.
“If we don’t become more competitive, we are not going to have a film industry in LA,” FilmLA spokesman Todd Lindgren said.
The current mayor, Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa, has come under increasing criticism for the runaway productions.
