The worldwide socialist group, Socialist International, which boasts as members and affiliates 170 political parties and organizations, including Britain’s ruling Labour Party and South Africa’s ruling ANC party, has the biggest clout at most United Nations global conferences.
So says reporter William F. Jasper of New American.
Jasper notes that the SI played a major role at the UN’s global warming meeting in Copenhagen, which gave Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez a rousing welcome during one of his anti-capitalist, anti-American rants.
Though Copenhagen was a failure, SI is set to play a major role in the UN’s Summer 2010 follow-up to Copenhagen in Mexico City. In fact, in 1992, the UN and SI established a joint commission in support of a one-world government led by the UN.
In the past, SI has officially aligned itself with such Communist dictatorships as the Warsaw Pact, Castro’s Cuba, and Nicaragua’s Sandinista regime, as well as the Communist Soviet Union’s relationship with Yassir Arafat’s terrorist group the PLO, which repeatedly targeted international capitalist ventures like the international airline industry.
“Former” Communists are now members of SI, including Sergei Stanishev, chairman of the former Bulgarian Communist Party, and Sergei Mironov, a former Soviet bureaucrat in the Communist Party and supporter of former KGB head Vladimir Putin, now Russia’s Prime Minister.
Two SI members who advise president Obama are Joseph Stiglitz, author of THE ROARING NINETIES, and Carol Browner, who, as Director of the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy, heads Obama’s efforts to regulate all energy production and consumption, including carbon dioxide emissions.
