Studies by Nielsen PreView show that the box office success of Oscar nominees is the “most important predictor of overall Academy Award viewership” on TV.
Thus, the last time the Oscar telecast had a high rating was in 2004, when the blockbuster LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING won Best Picture.
Ratings for the 2010 ceremony are expected to be huge, with three major blockbusters, including UP, THE BLIND SIDE and AVATAR, vying for major awards throughout the night.
