Cruise Ship to Super Bowl: 49ers Safety Logan Ryan Talks Return to NFL

During Thanksgiving, San Francisco 49ers safety Logan Ryan was on a cruise with his family, but after getting a call from the team asking him to join mid-season, he knew he had to take the opportunity.

“Once I knew the 49ers were interested…there wasn’t any drinking on the cruise, and I occupied that gym quite a bit,” Ryan said.

“I wasn’t necessarily just looking to play for anybody,” he added. “I think it was just a great opportunity. You can’t turn down an opportunity of a lifetime.”

As an 11-year veteran with two Super Bowl appearances, Ryan was a perfect fit for a young 49ers team.

The 49ers beat the Detroit Lions last weekend after overcoming a 24-7 deficit at halftime.

“I think I was one of the few players that have experience of being down a lot in a big game, being down 20 to 3 in a Super Bowl. So, I sat there, and it was pretty quiet. It was quiet and I just kept saying, ‘This is going to be the best comeback in this team’s history. We’re coming back. We just got to get stops. We got to stop messing around and just get stops,'” Ryan said of the mood in the locker room at halftime.

“I don’t know if we needed to calm down,” he added. “I don’t know what it was. But we just needed to fight to get stops. And when this defense is able to get stops, our offense is able to normally control the clock and put the game away and score. I think every possession in the second half, they scored. So, there was no panic. There was no screaming, yelling. There was no pushing. There was no fiery speeches.”

When the 49ers secured the NFC Championship win, Ryan celebrated with his wife and two young children.

He posted a video of the game on his social media and wrote, “A moment we’ll never forget.. we’re going to the Super Bowl ❤️?”
