If we were famous, we would all hope to give God the glory when we have our biggest triumphs, but would we really? Would we publicly give God the credit for our achievements? We rounded up some amazing moments in which athletes gave God the glory after big wins. These moments encourage us to stand up for God in every situation because the world is watching.
Patrick Mahomes
Three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes is a devout Christian. During an interview with CBS at Super Bowl LIX, Mahomes gave a shout out to the Lord for his success, saying, “First off, I want to give all glory to God. Without Him, none of this is possible, and I truly mean that.”
Mahomes is currently the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, and has played for the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. It’s refreshing to see an NFL player be so open about their faith.
Hunter Armstrong
US swimmer Hunter Armstrong wants to be known best for his faith in God. The Olympic gold medalist competed in Paris as part of the men’s 4×100 relay, winning his second gold medal in his Olympic career. Armstrong is vocal about God being a top priority in his life.
He told the Baptist Press, “That’s the first thing I want people to see and know about me. As we grow, we have to make sure we have our priorities in line. I keep God as a priority. I can’t really live without Him. I can live without swimming or being an Olympian or any of that stuff.”
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is US hurdler and sprinter who competed in both 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. She wrote in her book, Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith, “I’m just grateful for my faith, and to God for guiding me through all of that and finding my identity in him and not in myself or in my performance.
“I think that’s given me so much freedom to just run the race,” she continued. “He’s called me to it. And I think that this is testimony of just how much growth has taken place in me, not by my own strength, but by Him.”
Stephen Curry
Stephen Curry, point guard for the Golden State Warriors, continues to praise God for his wins. He has said several times in his social media and in interviews that all the glory is for God.
He has been a record-setter in the NBA, winning 4 NBA championships, 2 regular season MVP awards, 1 NBA Finals MVP, 11 NBA All-Star selections, and setting the record for most career 3-pointers made. Recently, Curry was named 27th on the all-time NBA scoring list, to which he commented, “I thank God every day that this is a space I’ve been able to live in for 16 years.”
Simone Biles
Simone Biles, famous US Olympic gymnast, has been consistent in pointing her audience to the Lord in all her successes. God has certainly blessed her as Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history, with 41 Olympic and World Championship medals, including 7 Olympic gold medals, and 23 World gold medals.
Biles pointed to her Christian walk and prayer life, saying “I have a lot of faith in God. It really helps me through the tough times. I pray every night before I go to bed and I feel like God is with me when I compete.”
