‘A Family Coming Back Together’: Two Daughters’ Real-Life PARENT TRAP

Rachel and Caroline Gaede are going viral for their PARENT TRAP-inspired plan to get their long-divorced parents back together. Rachel chronicled the entire saga through her TikTok account.
“It is a little bit weird,” mom Julie Shore said during an appearance on the TODAY show, pointing out that, with their daughters leaving home, the couple are getting ready to start married life again.
The family admitted that Julie and husband, Scott Gaede, were “not on good terms” before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the family decided to stay in the same “bubble” together, and Rachel soon saw sparks flying between her divorced parents.
“Covid is when they became friendly with each other, which was new enough in itself,” she said. “I would say it was, like, 2021, when we were like, ‘What’s going on here?’”
Rachel shared that one of the most “exciting” parts of watching the relationship progress was how “different” it was this time around.
“I think getting to watch your parents fall in love is not something that a lot of people get to experience,” she told PEOPLE. “You’re born into a family where your parents are married or they’re already together and then you grow up with them together. Maybe they separate. I think what was so special is getting to watch that happen and getting to see them love each other for the people that they had become as individuals.”
Julie and Scott tied the knot again shortly after Christmas, and their daughters couldn’t be happier.
“Some people are saying, ‘All that drama between your parents was for nothing,’” Rachel said. “But it wasn’t for nothing. They learned about forgiveness and resilience and growth.”
Julie echoed her daughter, saying, “It’s a symbol of everything we’ve been through. This wasn’t just two people getting remarried — it was a family coming back together.”
