A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE Actor Says It’s ‘Not a Horror Movie’

Movieguide® award nominee A QUIET PLACE is getting a prequel, and it isn’t a horror movie, according to actor Alex Wolff.
Wolff said that although A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE will take place in a world full of monsters and survival, the movie will feel like a drama.
“That’s not a horror movie, not really. I might get in trouble for saying that,” Wolff said to Discussing Film about A QUEIT PLACE: DAY ONE. “It’s from the director of PIG, this film I did, so it’s very…It’s more a drama. It’s weird going from a $2 million movie to a $100 million movie and working with the same director and in the same proximity [as the other actors]. There’s only about four or five characters in it. So it was kinda like making PIG, just on a massive scale.”

The prequel will follow a new set of characters from the first movies and stars Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O’Hare.
John Krasinski, who starred in the first movies, said of DAY ONE, “The story…is set within the same world but diverges from the Abbott family story. It follows Nyong’o’s character as she navigates through the horrific first moments in ‘the loudest city in the world, New York.’ The story ‘Takes us back to where it all began.'”
According to Deadline, “In the clip, Nyong’o is sleeping on a bus, then there’s a blackout, explosions in a burning and smoldering city as the alien invasion starts with all standing silently looking skyward at white streaks. Humankind realizes they can’t make noise. Silence, no talking. Just the ominous clicking that makes the film so terrifying.”
The original release date for A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE was pushed back by a few months due to last year’s strikes.
Screen Rant reported, “Paramount has pushed back A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE’S release date from March 8, 2024 to June 28, 2024. As part of a series of moves prompted by delays caused by Hollywood’s ongoing strike action, the new horror prequel will now take the slot originally planned for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8. Other affected movies also include the Ryan Reynolds and Krasinski comedy IF (May 17, 2024), and an as-yet-untitled SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS movie (December 19, 2025).”
