Another beloved movie is getting the reboot treatment — a new version of A WALK TO REMEMBER is now in the works.

“A WALK TO REMEMBER has endured as a beloved coming-of-age drama, captivating audiences with its heartfelt story of young love, personal growth and the power of faith for decades,” Steve Barnett, a member of the production team, told Deadline. “We could not be more excited to bring a new version of Nicholas Sparks’ timeless story to audiences and are particularly thrilled to work alongside the original film’s producers, Denise [Di Novi] and Hunt [Lowry].”

Lowry added, “I’m delighted to be bringing this timeless story to a new generation of moviegoers.”

Cast and plot details have not yet been revealed, but one of the original stars of A WALK TO REMEMBER has some suggestions.

In a 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Mandy Moore chose Olivia Rodrigo as “someone [who] could redo this film.”

“I would love to see it,” the singer and actress said. “It’s been long enough that, yeah, I feel like we’ve earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point.”

While A WALK TO REMEMBER is not based on a true story, Nicholas Sparks, who wrote the novel the movie was based on, shared that there was some real-life inspiration in the story.

“In many ways, Jamie Sullivan was my younger sister. Like Jamie, my sister was sweet. Like Jamie, my sister had tremendously strong faith. Like Jamie, my sister loved church. Like Jamie, my sister wasn’t popular at school. Like Jamie, my sister was always cheerful. Like Jamie, all my sister wanted in life was to get married,” the author wrote in a post on his website. “And like Jamie, my sister got cancer.”

He explained that, during that time, his sister met someone who was initially unsure about beginning a relationship with her, but “in the end, he couldn’t help himself.”

“Even when he knew she was sick, even when he knew that she might not make it, this man asked my sister to marry him,” Sparks wrote. “It was just about the sweetest thing that’s ever been done for anyone, and I suppose I wrote this novel not only so that you could get to know my sister, but so that you would know what a wonderful thing it was that her husband once did for her. Sadly, my sister died in June 2000. She was thirty-three years old.”
