ABC’s THE GOOD DOCTOR will end after season 7.

The show, which stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, was ranked the network’s No. 1 among adults ages 18-49.

“Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life,” Highmore said. “I will always be grateful to David, Liz, and Erin as well as the hugely talented – and lovely – cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible. Caring deeply is what got us here. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home.”

“THE GOOD DOCTOR has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it’s time to say goodbye,” co-showrunners David Shore and Liz Friedman and fellow executive producer Erin Gunn said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the message we’ve been privileged to be a part of. We look forward to giving our fantastic fans, the truly extraordinary Freddie Highmore, the rest of our talented actors (and friends), and the best crew in the business the series ending that you all deserve. Thank you, Sony; thank you, ABC; thank you all.”

Highmore was previously known for his roles in AUGUST RUSH and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. Because he was perfect for the role of Dr. Shaun Murphy, producers honored his request to only have 18-episode seasons. However, due to the strikes last year, the upcoming final season will be 10 episodes.

A handful of other shows are ending as well.

Variety reported, “THE GOOD DOCTOR is the latest broadcast show to announce its end with the upcoming season. Fellow ABC series STATION 19 will also end with its seventh season, while the CBS shows YOUNG SHELDON, BLUE BLODDS, BOB HEARTS ABISHOLA and ‘SWAT’ are all coming to a close as well. NBC is likewise concluding the drama LA BREA after three seasons and recently aired the final season of the MAGNUM P.I. reboot. At The CW, SUPERMAN & LOIS will end with its fourth season.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the end of BLUE BLOODS:

BLUE BLOODS will be coming to an end with the upcoming 14th season of the popular police drama.

“BLUE BLOODS will forever be a beloved part of CBS’s legacy,” said Amy Reisenbach, the president of CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, president of CBS Studios, in a joint statement. “It ruled Friday nights with unprecedented dominance since its premiere and established itself as a pillar of our winning lineup with an exceptionally devoted fan base.”

Star Tom Selleck also released a statement, saying, “For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,”

“Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes,” he continued. “Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”
