Actor John Schneider: ‘Logical, Patriotic Thought Is the Enemy to Woke Hollywood’
By Movieguide® Staff
THE DUKES OF HAZZARD star recently appeared on an episode of ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ to discuss how Hollywood has shunned patriotism in many of its movies and series.
Schneider said that he experienced Hollywood’s aversion to patriotism firsthand after struggling to find funding for his latest movie, TO DIE FOR.
Based on a true story, Schneider said that TO DIE FOR pays homage to the U.S. Flag and the people who fight for American Freedom.
“I read a story about a man who went to jail, rather than adhere to a restraining order keeping him from driving within 300 yards of the local high school with the American flag on the back of his truck,” Schnieder said.
“I’ve written for a long time, I wrote the last episode of Dukes of Hazzard, Hopefully that’s not why it was the last episode,” he joked. “But it inspired me to jump into this character and build a character who was a veteran, who understands sacrifice, who understands a willingness to potentially die for his country, and who does not understand under any circumstances, why young people are being applauded for disrespecting our flag at sporting events.”
Schneider admitted that he wasn’t surprised when Hollywood did not want to support him or his movie.
“I went there, not surprised that Hollywood wouldn’t have anything to do with it,” he said. “I mean, I recognize that logical patriotic thought is the enemy to woke Hollywood.”
‘’I didn’t go to them hoping that they would help me because I quit 11 years ago and I took my toys out of my sandbox and created my own sandbox. It’s wonderful. We got great response from this film,” he added.
