Actor Tony Hale: I Trust God With The Bigger Picture of My Life

By Movieguide® Staff

Every role Tony Hale gets, he sees it as a providential sign that God is watching out for him.

“It’s a very uncertain career,” Hale says of acting. “Knowing that I can go to God and trust that He sees the bigger picture is very comforting to me.”

For Hale, though, his success comes back to fixing his eyes on Christ.

“Christ talks a lot about looking around us and noticing the suffering of others and loving the orphans and the widows and being other centered. I mean, obviously I’m in probably the most narcissistic careers you could have. To be able to get my eyes off myself is a gift. I think it’s a gift to all of us to do that, so I think that’s definitely a principle of the faith.”

Hale also said that his faith plays a role in relieving his anxiety.

“It’s a daily fight,” Hale said. “One thing I don’t do enough and I need to do more of is just being still. I mean, we’re spinning on a planet right now. I mean that’s crazy, and I think we forget that. We forget the uncertainty that we’re living in and the chaos that we’re living in, [we can sit] in the stillness with God and [know] that He is above that. I can surrender and trust Him and sit in that peace and that stillness.”

In addition to his roles in television comedies, Hale also appeared in the Movieguide® award-nominated movie TOY STORY 4 as Forky, the newest toy to join Woody, Buzz and the rest of the playroom gang.

Hale shares more about Forky in the interview below.
