AI Use on the Rise Among U.S. Adults, Study Finds

By Movieguide® Contributor

A recent study found that using artificial intelligence is becoming commonplace among U.S. adults.

A 2022 survey from Pew Research found that “a larger share of Americans say they are ‘more concerned than excited’ by the increased use of AI in daily life than say the opposite.”

However, despite limited enthusiasm for the tech a few years ago, Barna Group and Gloo found that “31 percent of U.S. adults say they use AI weekly or daily. Millennials have become especially frequent adopters, with 43 percent of them using AI at least weekly.”

Young adults are more likely to use AI compared to older adults.

Per Barna, “Millennials and Gen Z use AI most frequently in their personal lives, with over half (54%) of both groups using the technology ‘often’ or ‘sometimes.’ Meanwhile, older generations are far less likely to embrace AI (82% of Boomers and 91% of Elders say they use AI ‘not very much’ or ‘not at all’).”

Systems like ChatGPT, Siri, Alexa and others make it even easier to implement AI into daily life. Many find themselves using the tech to get answers to questions like, “How many points did Michael Jordan have in his career?”

However, many are wary about using the AI to study the Bible.

“Just eight percent of Christians and four percent of non-Christians are interested in using AI to study the Bible. We see similar numbers when it comes to the use of AI to learn about Christianity (6% and 3%, respectively),” Barna reported.

Despite the limited interest, numerous AI-powered Bible study tools are available. CBN reported on Insight Bible, which was “designed to help users deepen their faith walk and ultimately introduce a new wave of technology to traditional Bible reading.”

“Insight Bible goes beyond static engagement. The app evolves with you, utilizing Machine Learning to personalize your Bible journey. As you interact with the app, it adapts to your preferences and study patterns, providing a truly personalized experience,” Tiatun Tiatun, creator of the Insight Bible, said.

It also offers Pastor AI, “a digital Bible assistant that can clarify key scriptures and answers life’s questions.”

Despite this technology and others like it, only 27 percent of Americans agreed, “If I were to ask a question about Christian teachings and beliefs to an AI tool, I would trust its response.”

Former supermodel Kathy Ireland warned against the dangers of AI late last year.

“As with all technology there, it can be used for good or evil. So, we’ve got to be alert to it and be on it. And I just can’t stress enough the alertness and the protection that we all need,” Ireland told Fox News. “Let’s seek to use it for good and protect ourselves against any negative impacts that it could have.”

Movieguide® previously reported on actor Kevin Sorbo’s thoughts on AI:

Kevin Sorbo is one of the many voices in Hollywood raising concerns about the use of AI.

“We have to fight it,” Sorbo explained, calling the recent SAG-AFTRA strike “frustrating” but adding, “I understand the concept behind it, and hopefully it will get solved sooner than later.”

One of his main concerns is with the use of AI versions of actors.

“I’ve always wanted to do a movie of Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando, apparently now I’ll be able to,” Sorbo told Fox News. “But, I don’t think it would stand up in court that they could get away with that without paying the people.”

His wife Sam, who is also an actress, echoed Sorbo’s comments, calling AI “extraordinarily dangerous.”
