Al Robertson Talks THE BLIND’s ‘Unbelievable’ Impact On Audiences
By Movieguide® Contributor
DUCK DYNASTY’s Al Robertson says his father’s biopic, THE BLIND, has had an “unbelievable” impact on viewers.
“There have been stories of people that literally came to a conversion moment in the theater, where they just said, ‘I need to accept Christ,’” Al explained.
He also shared stories of “marriages that were in divorce court, ready to end, being saved.”
“One particular story that I love is a woman who said her husband has been an alcoholic for…a long time and literally wakes up and starts drinking in the morning,” Al said. “She said about halfway through the film, she kept seeing him tear up. And he finally reached over and grabbed her hand during the film. And she said, ‘He hasn’t touched me in probably two years.’ And then after the film was over, he said, ‘I think we need to talk about some of my issues.’”
Al also shared the impact THE BLIND has had on him, pointing to the “scenes of grace.”
“The scenes that really impacted me more — and now especially that I’ve seen it a few times — were the scenes of grace, especially the church opening up for us [and] all the people that were there to provide a pathway for Mom and Dad,” he shared. “Those are the things now that made me cry because I realized that through all the difficulty, God had people there ready to help us when we needed to be helped.”
A portion of the Movieguide® review for THE BLIND reads:
THE BLIND is a good movie as a Christian testimony. That said, it doesn’t follow the rules of filmmaking. So, it may not win a big audience. The movie is propelled by the jeopardy, and vice and drinking, but Jesus is extolled. THE BLIND is a rough movie. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution, especially for children and young teenagers.
While appearing on “1819 News: The Podcast,” Al shared how his own life and marriage reflect some of the themes in THE BLIND.
“When we looked at our own lives, we never could have imagined having a marriage ministry because we struggled so mightily the first few years of our marriage,” he said of his marriage to wife Lisa. “It’s really out of brokenness, desperation, all those things that led us to Christ in our marriage, and now it helps us help other people.”
THE BLIND has enjoyed major success at the box office, and the Robertsons’ production company, Tread Lively, has more in store.
“We do have plans for more movies,” Korie Robertson shared, adding that they will be “faith-friendly, but not everything on the nose faith.”
