Al Roker Celebrates First Grandchild and Life as a Grandfather

TODAY television reporter Al Roker had his first grandchild and has loved every second of being a grandfather.
PEOPLE reported that Roker opened up to his TODAY co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, and Sheinelle Jones and said, “”It is magical, it really is.“
He continued, “The thing is, everyone tells you it’s going to be ‘this thing’ and you don’t know; it’s like when they tell you about having your first child. And then to hold this little girl, knowing almost 35 years ago I held her mom? And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long and she’s just perfect.”
“I’m telling you, she’s a great sleeper,” he added. “Sleeps for four hours, wakes up, goes to the bathroom, sleeps another four. We’re on the same schedule!”
Al Roker’s daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, shared a photo of her new baby girl on her Instagram.
She wrote, “Sky Clara Laga made her debut yesterday at 12:41 pm and we are absolutely obsessed with her. Thank you to Dr Shonda Corbett and the labor & delivery team at @holynamemedicalcenter who helped bring her into this world 💕”
Although many think his granddaughter’s name had to do with Roker being a weatherman but he insisted it had nothing to do with it. However, Sky couldn’t be more fitting.
Roker then gave an update on his daughter and son-in-law.
He stated, “You know, Courtney had a [cesarian section], so she’s struggling a little bit with that. And Wes, you know, I think the gravity of being a dad. But he still has that buoyant personality.”
Wesley made his own introduction for his new baby girl, “Sky Clara Laga made her world debut yesterday at 12:41pm. She is absolute perfection. @ouichefroker is a rockstar and is doing amazing as she recovers ❤️.”
Courtney and Wesley have been completely enthralled by their new addition to their family.
Courtney shared a picture of Wesley holding little Sky and wrote, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world and know I am extremely blessed. My husband is the definition of a super dad! Loving my little family each day 💕.”
In another post she wrote, “My heart is now outside my body 🥰.”

“A new adventure is about to begin,” she captioned the video, which featured family photos and videos, as well as an ultrasound of the baby.
“I think in honor of my dad I’m going to try to go for Pop-Pop,” Roker said of what he hopes his new grandchild will call him.
Although Courtney recently went public with the news, Roker said that he already had known.
“I’ve known for a while,” he said. “They just decided to go ahead (in announcing it). Wes’s goofy brother accidentally dropped it in a text. Thanks Cory!”
Roker said that Courtney’s baby is due in July.
