Al Roker Misses TODAY Show for Dog’s Emergency Surgery: ‘On the Mend’
By Movieguide® Contributor
TODAY show weatherman Al Roker missed the Monday, May 6, broadcast after his dog underwent emergency surgery.
“Our little girl, Pepper had emergency surgery but is on the mend,” Roker wrote on Instagram. “She’s getting great care and is coming home tomorrow. Woof. You can sleep on our bed as much as you want.”
Roker’s wife, Deborah Roberts, also shared an update on Pepper.
“Gratitude. My heart is bursting with it today. Our littlest girl, Pepper, gave us quite a scare,” Roberts wrote. “She has survived an emergency surgery. But thankfully, Our strong girl is recovering. We are grateful for any and all prayers for our sweet doggie who has stolen our hearts for 12 years now.”
Roker taking time away from the TODAY show to take care of his family dog isn’t a surprise. He always prioritizes family, even his four-legged members.
On Easter weekend, Roker hosted a meal for all of his family to come and enjoy.
“Been awhile since I made an Easter meal. Having family around makes the effort all the more worth it,” he wrote.
Roker and Roberts recently attended the Fisk University graduation ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee, to give the commencement address and receive honorary doctorates.
“Deborah and I are so honored to receive honorary doctorates and give the #commencementaddress today at the 150th #commencement at @fiskuniversity,” Roker wrote on Instagram.
The couple was awarded their doctorates at a friend’s restaurant in Nashville.
“Theresa and I had the honor and privilege of watching these two incredible humans receive their Doctrines from @fiskuniversity and President Agenia Clark at Luogo this evening,” Anthony Scotto Jr. wrote. “We’ve shared so many happy memories and have loved their family for a long time. Al and Deb you are so supportive, kind, loving and so deserving of this title. We love you both very much!”
Movieguide® previously reported how Roker’s family kept him going amid health battles:
Al Roker, long-time host and TODAY SHOW personality, loves being a grandpa and credited his new granddaughter for keeping him motivated amid his ongoing health struggles.
“I’m doing great, doing great. I tell you, the thing that’s kept me going is I’ve had a new granddaughter… If I had known they were this much fun, I would’ve had them first. It’s the best,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
