Alabama QB Bryce Young: ‘What Motivates Me Is to Model Myself After The Lord’

Alabama Crimson Tide’s Bryce Young recently discussed how he relies on Christ to lead the No. 1 ranked team into their upcoming season.

According to Sports Spectrum, it is the fifth time in seven years that ‘Bama has held the top spot in the preseason AP top 25 college football poll.

Perhaps the most significant contributor to their rank is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Young, who hopes to bring Alabama to their second national title in three years.

“There’s a lot of excitement surrounding this year, this team,” Young told Sports Spectrum. “Obviously, it’s a new group of guys. … [Saban] has a very strict policy year to year that you’re not entitled to anything, so right now, it’s all of us individually proving ourselves, us pushing each other to get better.”

Despite Young’s collegiate success, individually and as a team, he remains grounded through his faith in God.

“I work to be the best version of myself that I can be and to embody Christ in all that I do,” Young said. “So, for me, regardless of how someone else views me, whatever award, accolade, what someone may say … at the end of the day, what motivates me and pushes me is to model myself after the Lord.”

“I bring my faith in all that I do,” he added. “I work hard and try to do my best to represent God through football. Whether it’s small things, big things, whatever it is, I understand that God’s with me.”

Alabama Crimson Tide’s sophomore quarterback Bryce Young recently won the most prestigious award in college football, the Heisman Trophy.

The 20-year-old NFL prospect gave the glory to God in his acceptance speech in New York City on Dec. 11.

“First of all, I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Young said. “Without Him I couldn’t be here and through Him all things are possible.

“I’d like to thank my dad for always being there for me,” he continued. “From day one, you’ve always been by my side.”

Young is the fourth Alabama player to win the Heisman, but the first quarterback in the school’s history.

Young’s 43 touchdowns and 4,322 passing yards helped him win the award by a landslide with 684 first-place votes. Next in line was Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson, who received 78 first-place votes.

Young later posted a photo from the night, and once again turned the attention towards God.
