Alabama QB Finds Strength in ‘My Lord and Savior’

University of Alabama quarterback and redshirt sophomore Jalen Milroe credits his incredible return to the field to God.

On Saturday, Milroe went 17-21 on completed passes with 225 yards and one touchdown.

After the game, he told the media how he’s handled such a rough start to this season.

“I’ll say this, I get my strength from my Lord and Savior,” Milroe declared post-game. “I honestly say that, and I surrender my throne to Him, and I know that I can lean on Him no matter the circumstance. I honestly say I put my trust in Him no matter what.”

He added, “That’s where I get my strength at. My favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13: ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ And I can honestly say that. I can always lean on my Lord and Savior through any situation. So I’m good!”

In week one, Milroe stood out and secured the QB1 position. He completed “13 of 18 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns and adding 48 yards and two scores on the ground in the 56-7 win,” Sports Spectrum reported.

However, in week two, Milroe struggled when he threw two interceptions and only completed half of his passes. So, in week three, head coach Nick Saban kept Milroe on the sidelines to see how he would respond.

“Everybody handles frustrations a little differently, and I think sometimes you’ve gotta direct your frustration and make it a motivator,” Saban said, per Alabama Crimson Tide. “… Jalen [responded well] this week, and I’m pleased with his performance. He’s got nothing to prove here. He’s our guy. He’s the guy that we have confidence in.”

Milroe isn’t afraid to discuss his faith with his teammates as well. Last season, when former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young was injured, Milroe talked to him about God.

“The biggest thing I told [Young] was I love him,” Milroe told the media after that game. “… I just wanted to see how he was doing and check up on him. But he gave me some words of advice. And the biggest thing I wanted to tell him was God was with him and I love him.”

“The first thought I had was just talk to God,” he added. “Ask for protection, healing. Just know that He’s with me. So the first thing was talk to God. I had a one-on-one conversation with God.”

The quarterback relies on God for strength every day.

“The Bible says, do not lean on your understanding … lean on the Lord through it all. That’s been big because here at Bama you’re challenged day in and day out. Sometimes you can get weary; sometimes you can waver away from your end goal,” he expressed.

“But you know that God has a purpose. God wants us to lean on Him through it all. Every day I’m challenged. No matter what, I know that I can lean on Him. Not only for the bad, but I can lean on Him [also] for good and thank Him,” he added.

“No matter what it is, He’s the one who strengthens me,” Milroe concluded. “When you’re having a rough moment, when it feels like everything is against you, just know God is the One who is going to uplift you and push you to your ultimate — wherever you want to go.”

“Christ is who I can fall on no matter what it is—no matter the circumstance, no matter what’s going on. Christ is within me. With my faith, it honestly catapults me to what I want to do. There’s nothing I can’t do because of the Man above.”
