What You Need to Know About AMC’s Changes to Stubs A-List Subscription

By Movieguide® Contributor

AMC Theaters announced it is shaking up its Stubs A-List subscription service, raising the monthly price while also increasing the access to movies.

Stubs A-List is the theater chain’s subscription service which allows users to pay a flat monthly fee and receive a weekly allowed number of tickets. In the past, the service has cost users between $25 and $20  per month depending on the viewer’s state, and allowing them access to three movies per week.

Starting May 7, prices will rise to between $28 and $25 per month depending on the state. With the price hike, AMC is also increasing the number of movies accessible to subscribers, providing them a maximum of four tickets per week. Premium formats such as Imax and Dolby Cinema will remain available to Stub A-List members at no extra charge to their subscription.

“This is our first price increase in years, and even so, A-List is still an incredible bargain,” said CEO Adam Aron. “Even with this necessary price adjustment, in most cases, the most of an A-List membership will be less than seeing two movies per month as a non-member, especially so if you see a movie in our premium formats and/or buy your tickets online. We appreciate your dedication to watching movies on the big screens of AMC with our soon-to-be even better benefits of an A-List membership.”

This change comes as AMC revamps its Stubs A-List program, offering even more perks for its members. Subscribers who watch at least eight movies within a calendar year or accrue 5,000 AMC Stub points will be upgraded to AMC Stubs Premiere GO! status. This will provide them with free drink and popcorn size upgrades, access to priority lanes, along with points on their accounts that never expire.
