AMC Tests Variable Ticket Pricing Ahead of the Highly Anticipated THE BATMAN Release
By Movieguide® Staff
Cinema giant AMC announced that tickets for the new D.C. Superhero movie, THE BATMAN, would cost more than other movies in a test for variable pricing.
“Currently, our prices for THE BATMAN are slightly higher than the prices we are charging for other movies playing in the same theaters at the same time,” Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Entertainment, said.
“This is all quite novel in the United States, but actually AMC has been doing it for years in our European theaters. Indeed, in Europe we charge a premium for the best seats in the house — as do just about all sellers of tickets in other industries — take sports events, concerts and live theater, for example,” Aron added.
According to Deadline, tickets received a $1 mark-up due to fan anticipation for THE BATMAN.
Despite intermittent COVID-19 related shutdowns for movie theaters over the past two years, AMC weathered the storm and has plans to expand, Aron said.
“There is no specific company that we are yet ready to acquire, but I want to say again and again that people…should think about what a strong management team can do with $1.8 billion,” he said.
“We are going to look at candidates to diversify our risks away from pure movie theaters, to capitalize on our knowledge of food and beverage, of entertainment, of selling tickets to things, of running buildings that are far apart from each other, dealing with landlords with hundreds and hundreds of leases — this is all experience that AMC has that is needed in other industries too.” Aron added.

During a quarterly earnings call, AMC Entertainment chairman-CEO Adam Aron announced that the theater chain would make two significant changes at the end of 2021 and in 2022.
First, Aron revealed that by the end of the year, AMC theaters would be capable of cryptocurrency payments, like bitcoin, to purchase online U.S. movie tickets and concessions.
According to Deadline, AMC plans to experiment with NFT’s ahead of blockbuster releases like THE BATMAN.
