Rylie O’Neil, a contestant on this season of AMERICAN IDOL, shared a magical moment behind the scenes when an entire group began to worship the Lord together.

“Such a special moment backstage. God WILL get His glory 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻,” O’Neil wrote on Instagram along with a video showing dozens of singers behind the scene worshipping the Lord through the song “The Blessing.”

O’Neil brought Christ to the show from her first performance when she auditioned with a beautiful rendition of Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude.” Lake was even FaceTimed in by his friend Jelly Roll to hear her sing and expressed how honored he felt to have his song covered by such a singer.

“That was the most gorgeous version of ‘Gratitude’ I have ever heard. My goodness. I am honored,” Lake said.

Though O’Neil was recently cut from the competition as they narrowed it down to the final 25 singers, she remains thankful for her experience and for the opportunity to worship the Lord and make His name known on such a huge platform.

“Such an honor getting to worship Jesus on this show. God will get His glory,” she said. “I felt God call me to come on this show to glorify Him, and through all of my fear, I took that step of faith. My Jesus is so kind to me, and I will continue to sing of Him and His goodness.”

O’Neil joins a long list of AMERICAN IDOL contestants who have used the platform to spread the Gospel and glorify the Lord. Among the ranks are Danny Gokey, who previously shared why the show attracts so many Christian singers.

“A lot of these people who made the show were raised in church, sang in church, and who’ve put faith in Jesus Christ,” Gokey said “I think there’s just such an influence that churches had. Music is a huge part of church. That’s where I got my start, that’s where many people got their start. So they’re always going back to their roots.”

The show is taking the faith aspect to a whole new level this season with a three hour live special this Easter. This episode will feature the top 20 contestants singing faith-based songs along with guest performances from Brandon Lake, CeCe Winans, Roman Collins and The Brown Four and performances from all three judges.

It is amazing to see such a popular show embrace the gospel and use its platform to spread the goodness of God. Hopefully AMERICAN IDOL will continue to serve as a stronghold for Christian music, allowing even more Christin singers to enter the industry.
