Americans Resolve to Pray, Attend Church More in 2024

A new year means new goals, and many are resolving to pray, spend time with God and attend church services more in 2024.

A CBS poll, which asked about health, fitness and screen time resolutions, also asked participants if they plan to “pray or attend religious services more.”

A surprising 59% of the 2,182 participants said yes.

“Those who already attend religious services at least weekly are overwhelmingly likely to say their resolution is to pray and attend services more,” the study added.

Of the 59% of total participants who said yes to praying and attending religious services more, 65% of those people were under the age of thirty.

This trend is especially interesting, considering “Generation Z is about 45 to 50% nonreligious now,” said Ryan Burge, a political scientist at Eastern Illinois University. “It’s probably the least religious generation, at least in our lifetimes, over the last 100 years.”

Despite the statistics, though, young people’s spiritual hunger was evident throughout 2023. The Asbury Revival, which began in February last year, resulted in weeks of worship. Hundreds of baptisms took place at Auburn University in September.

“According to the Wall Street Journal, a recent survey by the Springtide Research Institute found that one-third of 18- to 25-year-olds believe in — more than doubt — the existence of a higher power, attributed to the three years of loss, depression and anxiety resulting from the global pandemic,” per NewsNation.

“We see such a hunger. It’s a spiritual hunger,” said Nick Hall, founder of The Pulse Ministry. “They’ve tried everything else. They saw their parents try everything else. And we see a generation turning to God and really turning to Jesus. And so something is taking off. And I think it’s revival.”

The recent success of faith-based entertainment, like SOUND OF FREEDOM, THE CHOSEN, THE BLIND and JESUS REVOLUTION, also proves that people want to connect with God.
