Angel Studios recently announced its upcoming theatrical slate, from comedies and family dramas to the movie it calls its “most ambitious” project yet.
“At CinemaCon 2025, we unveiled the most ambitious and cinematic slate in Angel Studios’ history. There are no greater partners than the dedicated exhibitors who bring these stories to life on the big screen,” Brandon Purdie, Executive Vice President and Head of Theatrical Distribution, shared in a press release. “We are all in on theatrical — bullish on the big screen, unwavering in our commitment to the theatrical window, and firm believers in the power of the shared moviegoing experience.”
He added, “This week at CinemaCon reaffirms the strength and influence of the Angel Guild — more than one million members dedicated to shaping the future of entertainment and ensuring that stories that amplify light shine where they belong—on the biggest screens, in front of the biggest audiences, the way they were meant to be experienced.”
Angel Studios’ first release is KING OF KINGS, an animated movie that follows Charles Dickens as he tells his son the greatest story ever told — the story of Jesus’ life.
On May 23, THE LAST RODEO comes to theaters. The movie is a family drama that sees a retired rodeo star return to bull-riding to save his grandson and repair his relationship with his estranged daughter.
Star and co-writer Neal McDonough told Deadline that his character “is on a journey from America’s heartland into the hearts and souls of everyone who’s ever loved their family so much they struggled for the words to express it properly.”
“This film has an incredible heart with a universal message of love, vulnerability, and reconciliation that the world so desperately needs right now,” he continued. “And my frequent collaborator and friend Jon Avnet is the director who could best bring this story to audiences around the world.”
SKETCH, starring comedy stars Tony Hale and D’Arcy Carden, tells the story of a widowed father whose world is turned upside down when his daughter’s drawings come to life and wreak havoc on their town. The movie premieres Aug. 6 (trailer via YouTube).
Writer and director Seth Worley released a statement about the movie, calling it a passion project that took him seven years to make.
“This movie is my childhood. This movie is my kids,” he explained. “If I only get to make one movie in my life, this is the one. It’s weird, it’s thrilling, it’s funny, it’s deeply emotional, and hopefully, I’ve put enough of myself into it for you to find yourself in it, too.”

TRUTH & TREASON tells the true story of a group of teenage boys who form a resistance group after witnessing the treatment of the Jews by the Nazis, eventually facing trial for their brave actions. TRUTH & TREASON hits theaters Oct. 17.
On Dec. 19, Angel’s “most ambitious” movie will debut. ZERO A.D. “is the untold origin of a revolution — where faith is tested, courage is forged, and the forces of darkness fight to extinguish the light.”
ZERO A.D is a new take on the Nativity story, focusing on King Herod’s order to his soldiers to kill newborn babies after hearing the prophecy that a child destined to be King of the Jews was born (teaser trailer via YouTube).
“In just our first two years, Angel Studios broke into the top 10 theatrical distributors in the U.S. — not by playing it safe, but by delivering powerful, values-driven stories that audiences are hungry for,” Jared Geesey, Chief Distribution Officer, said in a statement. “Now we’re taking that momentum global, partnering with theaters and filmmakers worldwide to bring light-filled movies to screens everywhere.”
Angel Studios’ upcoming releases are sure to cement its status as one of the most successful new studios in Hollywood.
