Christian music artist Anne Wilson never sang in front of anyone until she took the bold step at her brother’s funeral.
Now, she is a Grammy Award nominee.
“I just started to cry my eyes out, thinking about how far God’s taken me since losing my brother,” she stated.
Wilson and her brother were close. Although eight years separated them, they spent much time together listening to country music and driving through the winding roads of Kentucky.
“He was my best friend,” Wilson, told People. “He was such a kind person. He would never talk bad about anyone. He was the life of a party and always went out of his way to include people that were being left out. He was always that person that you could go to, and you just know that you could trust him. He was an incredible person.”
She continued, “One of my brother’s favorite songs was ‘Seminole Wind.’ My brother had this really cute country voice when he would sing. We would just always blast ‘Seminole Wind’ in the car,” she laughed. “It was the cutest thing.”
Wilson’s brother was tragically killed in a car accident in 2017. It was at his funeral that Wilson sang, “What a Beautiful name,” which then went viral. That performance changed the trajectory of her life, forever.
“God had such different plans for me,” reflected Wilson. “What He’s done in my life has been just so extraordinary. It’s been very interesting to see how you have an idea for your life and then He has another idea. It can be completely different, but it’s everything that you ever needed and everything you ever dreamed of.”
It was in a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru where she found out about her Grammy nomination.
“I started getting all these text messages and I pulled out my phone and I saw that I had been nominated for a Grammy,” Wilson recalled. “I was not expecting it at all. I had to pull over and I just started to cry my eyes out, thinking about how far God’s taken me since losing my brother.”
When she received the news, she couldn’t help but think how amazed and proud her brother would have been.
“He would’ve just called me crying and freaking out about it all,” Wilson stated. “I know he would be proud of me. yeah. I think he’d definitely be on the road with me, protecting me and watching over me. He would have been my bodyguard. He was supportive of me no matter what I did.”
She continued, “Even though I didn’t get a lot of time with [Jacob], I’m grateful for the 15 years I had with him so that I can now kind of model his life and work towards being more and more like him. He was amazing.”
Wilson’s newest song, “Living Water,” was featured in new movie JESUS REVOLUTION.
Movieguide® recently reported how Anne Wilson used a tragedy to launch her career:
Anne Wilson, “My Jesus” singer-songwriter, recently shared how God used the tragic death of her brother in 2017 to launch her music career.
“Losing Jacob changed everything for me,” she said in a recent CBN interview. “I gained a new perspective on life that I had never had. I realized how short these years on earth are, that heaven is the final destination, heaven is where I want to work towards. I want to tell people about Jesus. I want to work as hard as I can to introduce Jesus to as many people as I can.”
Movieguide® previously reported on how Wilson grew closer to God through that difficult time: “Instead of turning from Him, we chose to walk closer to Him through that time,” she shared. “So I became on fire for the Lord and we just chose to trust Him. We saw the Lord do a lot of really incredible things and [He] was just so faithful and kind to me and my family and it was such a sweet season.”
“I had this passion all of the sudden to tell the world about Jesus,” she explained. “I didn’t want anyone to have to experience a loss and know that their son or daughter or wife or husband or whoever didn’t go to heaven.”
