Anne Wilson on Grief: ‘God Can Use Anyone And Do Anything’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian artist Anne Wilson is sharing her ongoing struggles with grief at the loss of her brother.

“Right after my brother passed away and I was called into music by God, I just had this feeling,” she said on the “Holy Mess” podcast. “I don’t want to be fake, and I don’t just want to be another artist; I want to be vulnerable and real because that’s what impacts people.”

Wilson lost her brother Jacob in a car accident in 2017, a topic she explores in her hit song “My Jesus” and her book, “My Jesus: From Heartache To Hope.”

“The whole point of the book…[is] about how God can bring something beautiful out of nothing,” she continued. “The book just goes into detail of every miracle that God performs in our life.”

Wilson emphasized that “God can use anyone and do anything with anyone,” adding, “To see how He’s taken me, out of anyone he could have chosen…it’s just so humbling.”

“It’s also bittersweet in a sense, because I wouldn’t be here today without the loss of my brother,” she continued. “And I would trade it all to have him back…I’m so grateful for what I get to do, but I really miss my brother at the same time.”

Movieguide® previously reported on how the loss of Wilson’s brother influenced her career:

Anne Wilson, “My Jesus” singer-songwriter, recently shared how God used the tragic death of her brother in 2017 to launch her music career.

“Losing Jacob changed everything for me,” she said in a recent CBN interview. “I gained a new perspective on life that I had never had. I realized how short these years on earth are, that heaven is the final destination, heaven is where I want to work towards. I want to tell people about Jesus. I want to work as hard as I can to introduce Jesus to as many people as I can.”

Wilson spoke further about her brother’s impact on her life and career in an interview with PEOPLE.

“Jacob is with me all the time, even though I can’t see him, and I don’t feel him,” she shared

Talking about the music video for her single “Seventh of June,” Wilson said, “It’s about facing the fact that Jacob’s gone. I think being able to face that helped heal me and also helped convey the emotion in the video, along with the severity of it.”

Her musical career has skyrocketed over the last year — Wilson was even awarded Top Christian Album for “My Jesus” at this year’s Billboard awards.

“I’m so grateful. This is such an honor,” she said in her acceptance speech. “Thank you, the Lord, so much. The songs have impacted so many lives across the world and I’m so grateful that the Lord has used this record to bring glory and honor to his name.”
