Anne Wilson Turns ‘Whiskey’ on Its Head at Winter Jam

Christian artist Anne Wilson is having some fun on her Winter Jam concert tour by teasing one of her lesser-known songs, “Songs About Whiskey”—and it’s not what you think.
“I’m pretty sure this is the first time in all of Winter Jam history that an artist has done a song with the word ‘whiskey’ in it,” she recently shared in a video of herself from her Feb. 8 Atlanta concert. “But I can promise you guys this is not a song about whiskey, this is a song all about Jesus.”
“So Atlanta, are you guys ready to have some fun!?” she asked the crowd.
She began to sing, revealing the true nature of her song:
Turned the radio on my drive today
Heard a whole lot of songs ’bout a whole bunch of things
I knew all the words, but I couldn’t relate
‘Cause my three chords and the truth is
I ain’t no preacher, and I ain’t no judge
My straight and narrow’s been a little bit rough
Ain’t trying to Bible belt kill the buzz
‘Cause God loves country music
I’ve heard songs about Jack Daniel’s
Songs about Jim Beam
Heard songs about one-night regrets
Neon and nicotine
I guess I’m just kinda fixed on
The only thing that’s ever fixed me
That’s why I sing songs about Jesus
Instead of singing songs about whiskey
At this year’s Winter Jam, Wilson is performing with Skillet, Micah Tyler and a few other artists. Their next stop is in Little Rock, AAR,today, Mar. 14. Following that will be OKC, OK on Mar. 15. They’ll finish the tour in Nashville on Mar. 23.
Tyler also shared a favorite moment from the tour on his Instagram. “I have loved so many things about my time on @winterjamtour, but probably the thing I look forward to the most is meeting our freedom walkers!,” he captioned the video.
In the video, Tyler stands next to Garrison, a concertgoer, and shares his story with the crowd.
“Garrison was raised in a house that knew about Jesus but never really followed after Jesus,” Tyler shared. “At the most pivotal part of his life, his teenage years, his parents got divorced. He started making tough decisions.”
“He started trying to find fulfillment, love in all the wrong places. But he also wanted to step up for his family and even with him being abused inside of that house as he had been going to his grandparents. This world would say that he was nothing,” Tyler continued.
He pointed out that Jesus thinks differently than the world.
“Jesus said, ‘I want you.’ So now a few years later, Garrison wants to be a youth pastor, he volunteers at his church, he loves the Lord almighty, and guess what?” Tyler said. “He’s your family, Louisiana! And tonight, you belong to that family too.”
“Garrison’s story could have had a sad ending, but instead, because of Jesus, it showcases the redemptive and never-ending love of God, our father,” he finished in the caption.
