Actor Anthony Mackie has high hopes for the upcoming AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, which will see him return as Captain America/Sam Wilson.

“Yeah, man, we’re kicking on down the road, so everybody’s getting excited and we’re getting the band back together,” Mackie told IGN.

“We’re supposed to go out this week and we’ll be out there doing it. Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great,” he added. “I’m really excited for what this project is going to be. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.”

The new film will be interesting, as the X-Men join forces with the Avengers. But Mackie is excited about it.

“Look, I am a big Cyclops fan. That’s my favorite X-Men. I have a Cyclops action figure on my key chain that I’ve had since high school. When I was in high school, the X-Men cartoon was really big, and this was before the movies,” he told ScreenRant.

He added, “I’ve always been a huge Cyclops fan, and I’m really, really excited — hopefully, knock on wood — for them to be a part of it and come into it. [I’m excited] to hang out with Xavier and Beast and all those guys.”

He revealed that he’s most excited to join forces with Nightcrawler.

There has been no confirmation whether or not Mackie will actually interact with these characters in the film. ScreenRant noted that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said more announcements about the film will be coming out at a later date.

Most recently, Mackie starred in CAPTIAN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD, which released this past February.

In a trailer of the film posted to Instagram, fans showed their support. “Hardest Captain America I’ve seen yet..Anthony Mack did his thang🔥🔥👏👏🇺🇸” one user said. Another person added, “Great movie🔥.”

Movieguide®’s review reads, “CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD finds Sam Wilson, who’s taken over for Steve Rogers as Captain America, trying to stop an international crisis engineered by a mysterious villain.”

Movieguide® noted that the film “suffers from a predictable plot, an uninteresting cerebral villain, some lackluster dialogue, and a soft ending that’s a bit anticlimactic and rushed” and also that it “has lots of foul language, including two strong profanities. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.”

Let’s hope that the new AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY brings life and fans back to the MCU, just as Mackie suspects it will.
