Apple TV+ Joins Amazon’s Collection Of Add-On Subscriptions

Apple TV+ is the latest streaming service to strike a deal with Amazon.
The streaming service will be available to stream through Prime Video in the U.S. later this month as an add-on subscription for $9.99 per month. That’s the same price subscribers pay for Apple TV+ as a stand-alone service.
“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming,” Mike Hopkins, SVP and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in an announcement about the partnership.
Hopkins continued, “As we continue to expand our offering and make it easy for customers to personalize their streaming experience directly in one app, we are proud to welcome Apple TV+ and its popular and critically acclaimed shows, films and events to Prime Video.”
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, also released a statement, saying, “We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world’s greatest storytellers available to as many viewers as possible. We’re thrilled that Prime Video will now offer Apple TV+, giving viewers an incredible breadth of viewing options.”
Apple TV+ will be part of Prime Video’s selection of over 100 add-on subscriptions, including Max, Paramount+, and MGM+.
“What we offer channel partners is hundreds of millions of subscribers around the world,” Hopkins said of Amazon’s partnerships at Bloomberg’s Screentime conference. “We see a lot more engagement, we’re able to get subscribers for those businesses at a really attractive rate.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Amazon’s subscription add-ons:
Starz and MGM+ are partnering up in a new 20% discounted bundle offer for U.S. Amazon Prime members in an effort to boost subscribers.
“We are excited to join forces with Amazon to offer Starz together with MGM+ to their millions of customers on Prime Video,” Alison Hoffman, Starz’s president of domestic networks, said. “Starz is a complementary service to general entertainment offerings, so we’re thrilled to see that bundling is now here and believe there will be many more bundling opportunities to come.”
Variety reports this team-up will help Starz, as the network lost 1.1 million domestic subscribers in the last three months of 2022. Lionsgate, who owns Starz, plans to “spin off its film and TV studio and production company from Starz, which it acquired for $4.4 billion in 2016.”
The MGM+/Starz bundle will launch in the next few weeks for $11.99 per month—a 20% discount from the current price of both standalone subscriptions. This deal is only available for Amazon Prime subscribers.
